What's the Cost of Green?
Yes, there may be a premium to building your next school ‘green’. But the payback — in financial terms — is up to 20 times your original investment, not to mention the dramatic improvements in health, work and learning, and the environment. So, the question should be asked, “What’s the cost of NOT building ‘green’?”

Kaleva Norman Dickson Schools
Lakewood Construction has completed additional work in the KND school district after cost savings generated on the 2005 bond issue allowed the district to make further improvements.

Zeeland Public Schools
Zeeland West High School, a national showcase of sustainable building design, continues to deliver a high return on investment.

"A key cost-saving measure at Zeeland Public Schools will never be seen by the public. It is the miles of underground piping that comprise our geothermal systems at Zeeland West High School and Quincy Elementary School. The money saved in utility costs at these buildings measures in the thousands of dollars per month. We are so convinced of the merit of this energy-saving technology that we will be installing a geothermal system this fall to heat our two swimming pools at Cityside Middle School. Our taxpayers are entitled to this good stewardship. Money saved goes directly to the daily operation of our classrooms.”
Gary L. Feenstra, Superintendent, Zeeland Public Schools
