Lakewood Construction was hired by VA Enterprises to update the existing boathouse. This work included removal of the old cedar shake roof and to replace with a new mechanically seamed, standing seam metal roof. Lakewood repainted the entire structure (exterior only) with special insect resistant paint. Additionally, the existing, non-functional rolling steel doors were removed and replaced with military grade rolling steel doors. The larger of the two doors measured 21' wide x 26' tall and weighed approximately 3 tons. Special engineering ensured that the new rolling steel doors would withstand the larger wind loads generated on the waterfront. Special "roller wind locks" were installed in order to keep the doors operational during period of high winds. The entire door replacement was performed from the deck of a barge, which was shipped to Charlevoix from Ironton, MI.
