Grand Traverse Yacht Club
Traverse City, MI

Lakewood Construction was the successful bidder for the design and re-construction of the Grand Traverse Yacht Club. The previous facility fell victim to fire in the spring of 2008. Documents which spelled out the basis of design were distributed to invited contractors only in August of 2008 and Lakewood was awarded the contract in early September. Work began quickly in order to get ahead of the on-coming winter weather. As work started, it was discovered that the existing slab had no foundation on two of the four sides of the building. Even with the need for additional foundation work, Brian Hinman (Lakewood Superintendent) managed to have the new foundations and slab-on-grade poured only 1 day before the snow began to fly. By Thanksgiving, Traverse City had already received approximately 3' of snow. Work continued through the heavy winter months and into the spring. The contract allowed for just 210 calendar days to complete the work and Lakewood successfully obtained substantial completion for the project in just 172 days.
