| Zeeland Farm Services is a family owned operation located in Zeeland, MI serving the agricultural and transportation industries. Lakewood has a long history with ZFS and has completed multiple projects for their company. In 2006, Lakewood completed their new LEED Silver Certified Corporate Headquarters. Previously located in a residential style single story office building, ZFS recognized the need to increase square footage and also the quality of the building. While reluctant at first, they decided to pursue LEED accreditation. This was done for many reasons including industry recognition as a green company as sustainability has a direct correlation to their business. Improved building efficiencies, employee satisfaction, and reduced operating costs were additoinal factors in their decision making process. The ZFS facility is a two story steel skeleton structure with metal stud infill, brick veneer, a standing seam sloped roof, and a precast concrete floor. The building includes a partial basement for storage, mechanical, and electrical spaces. Ribbon windows allow an abundance of natural light. Locally available products with low VOC and high recycle content were primarily used. The lobby has an exposed aggregate concrete surface. The mechanical system utilizes radiant heat and heat pumps and the electrical system takes advantage of day lighting by utilizing light sensors and occupancy sensors which in turn minimizes energy consumption. The floor plan is relatively open to allow for flexibility. To earn additional Green credits and also keep utility costs to a minimum, ZFS pipes methane gas to their campus from the local land fill. * LEED Silver - Corporate Headquarters * 19,223 S.F. |
