Big Rapids Chooses Lakewood For Construction Management
Lakewood is pleased to announce their selection as Construction Manager for the upcoming $ 4.7 million Big Rapids Public Safety facility, and the renovation of the existing City Hall facilities for $ 1.1 million. Lakewood will help The Design Forum during the design phase with budget, schedule, and value management, and to provide management services during the construction portion of the project.
The project consists of the demolition of an existing abandoned industrial structure, the construction of a new public safety facility on that site, as well as the renovation of the existing City Hall.
The 30,000 square foot Public Safety facility will house the new offices of both the Big Rapids Police and Fire departments under one roof. The facility will include maintenance areas for vehicles, administrative offices, training rooms, sleeping quarters, kitchen facilities, holding areas, interview rooms, and a large public area including the main entry.
Renovations to City Hall will begin after the new Public Safety Building is complete and ready for occupancy. This project will include converting the existing police and fire areas into more office space for the administrative staff.
The first phase of projects should begin summer 2001 with completion in summer 2002, and the second phase (renovations to City Hall) should be completed in spring 2003.
