New Center For Women in Transition On Schedule
Renovations and additions to the new program center for the Center for Women in Transition are right on schedule according to officials at Lakewood Inc.
The 14,000 square foot facility includes office areas as well as private interview rooms, training rooms, and program areas. The renovated facility will serve as the new headquarters for the non-profit organization's administrative offices, and will remain separate from the existing women's shelter. A sexual assault nurse examiner unit is being added to provide emergency service for assault victims.
The Center for Women in Transition has assisted over 15,000 women in Allegan and Ottawa counties since 1977. This assistance comes in various forms including economic support, training for new job skills, parenting and relationship skills, and an emergency shelter. The center has served a variety of women and children in challenging situations including divorce, death or disability of a spouse, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
The new facility will be completed in October of 2001.
