Lakewood, Inc. Breaks Ground On Dining Hall For Geneva Camp & Retreat Center

Lakewood Inc. is pleased to announce the commencement of another project for the Geneva Camp & Retreat Center. Ground was recently broken for a new 24,500 square foot Dining Hall which will modernize the kitchen and dining facility for the conference facility, and provide a focal point for camp activities.

This is the 4th phase of a multi-phased master plan to renew and expand the original facilities of the camp. A second camp (Geneva Pines) adjacent to the original camp was opened in 1999, an activity and recreation center completed in 2000, and Lakewood completed a new entry drive and parking area in 2002.

Geneva is home to a summer program that serves 4,500 campers in both day camp and overnight programs. In addition to its summer program, the camp offers year round retreat facilities used by up to 400 retreat groups throughout the year on its two sites.

The new Dining Hall will have the feel of a lodge, with exposed wood beams and large expanses of glass allowing plenty of natural lighting. The new facility will also feature a large balcony/exterior dining area overlooking the natural wooded landscape of the grounds.

Geneva has been in existence since 1948 and has evolved over time into the full service camp and retreat center that it now is. According to Executive Director, Dave Vander Well, this new dining hall will provide them with a resource that will allow them to serve all of the campers at one time as well as to host larger retreats.

This project is scheduled for completion in September of 2004.
