Lakewood, Inc. Receives Three Awards of Excellence

Officials from Lakewood Inc. are pleased to announce the receipt of three (3) Awards of Excellence from the Associated Builders & Contractors annual quality competition.

The first award was for Zeeland West High School in the Institutional $25 million and greater division. This project was completed in time for the fall semester of 2002 and incorporated many “Green” attributes including geothermal heat, a white membrane roof, photovoltaic energy panels, natural lighting elements, and complex building control systems that can be incorporated into the educational curriculum of the student body.

The second award was for the Plaza Center in the General Construction over $7 million category. This project in downtown Holland, Michigan incorporates a snowmelt system around the perimeter of the building that was constructed on a stone column compaction system for the foundation. The 60,000 square foot office facility is home to GMB Architects, the law firm of Warner Norcross & Judd, West Michigan Community Bank and Hilliard & Lyons.

The final award was received for the Bank of Holland facility in downtown Holland. This award was presented in the General Construction $2-5 million category. The new 22,000 square foot headquarters for the bank was constructed on a small lot with zero foot lot lines. The building was constructed with extensive masonry detail, including simulated limestone accents, and a custom exterior cornice detail.

These three awards bring the total number of Awards of Excellence received by Lakewood Inc. to twenty-one (21) since the program’s inception in 1989.
