Lakewood, Inc Breaks Ground on North Shore Elementary
South Haven Public School administrators gathered with board members, community leaders, students, together with the design and construction professionals to commemorate the groundbreaking for the new North Shore Elementary School on Monday, March 29, 2004.
In the fall of 2003 the constituents of the district approved a bond issue in the amount of $24.9 million, undertaking a building program that would include a new elementary facility, renovations and additions to two existing elementary facilities as well as a new auditorium at the existing high school.
The 61,000 square foot, new elementary facility is the first project to be kicked off. It will include state of the art classrooms, a computer lab / media center, spaces for art and drama, classrooms to accommodate special education needs, administrative areas, office and conference rooms, gymnasium, as well as a new cafeteria and a district wide food service kitchen including cold storage and dry goods storage space.
The new facility was designed by URS Architects and is being constructed by Lakewood Inc. under a Modified Construction Management program. It is scheduled for completion in August of 2005, in time for the 2005-2006 school year.
