Construction Begins on Martha Miller Center For Global Communications

The Hope College campus in Holland, Michigan is the setting for another signature construction project being undertaken by Lakewood Construction.

The 49,100 square foot Martha Miller Center for Global Communications began construction in April of 2004 and will be completed in October of 2005. The new facility will house the language and communication arts program for the college, including administration, academic space, and media labs.

The project included the purchase of Lincoln Elementary School from Holland Public Schools in 2002. Demolition of that existing structure occurred in late 2003. Site construction began in late April, while footings and foundations are now rising above finished grade. The steel framed building, with a masonry veneer having extensive glass, a large rotunda with a copper roof, and will include extensive landscaping and a snowmelt system.

Lakewood Inc., of Holland, Michigan is providing Construction Management services for the project, while Design Plus of Grand Rapids, Michigan is the architect of record.
